Agenda Item: VII.I.

Consider/Approve Central Cafeteria Food and Non-Food Item Bids

Background Information:

In addition to advertising, the Reelfoot Area Consortium solicited bids from Hardin’s-Sysco, U. S. Foods, and Gordon Foodservice for the purchase of food and non-food items.

All of these items are for the second semester of the 2009 – 2010 school year and funds are budgeted in the FY10 Central Cafeteria Fund for these purchases. The Consortium received bids for these purchases, as attached, and determined that the low bids were submitted by:

  • Hardin’s-Sysco (U. S. Foods also submitted a bid) for all food and non-food items in proposal I and II; and
  • U. S. Foods for volatile bid items (Turner Holdings submitted a bid also) for milk products.

The consortium approved the low bids submitted as noted above; however, each individual school board must accept the bids. As noted on the email from Ms. Judy Denman, the prices for food and non-food items for the second semester were down in every category. Volatile market items were down 6%, Proposal I (canned goods, staples, cleaning supplies, and non-food supplies) were down 6%, and Proposal II (frozen foods, chilled foods, and breakfast foods) were down 2%.

Staff Recommendation:

I concur with the recommendations set forth by the Consortium and Ms. Judy Denman and recommend approval of the bids submitted as set forth above.
